HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Because of early morning inclement weather, the spring portion of the Southern Miss men's golf season got delayed by a couple of hours Monday at the Hal Williams Collegiate in Mobile, Ala.
Being played at the par 71, 7,168-yard Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove at the Crossings course, the Golden Eagles were unable to complete the scheduled pair of rounds in the two-day, 54-hole tournament.
When play was suspended, the Golden Eagles had completed either 15 or 16 holes individually in the second round. At the time of the suspension, Southern Miss found themselves in ninth place, enjoying a four-under team round.
Southern Miss bounced back after completing a four-over 288 first round with senior Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) leading the way with a four-under 67. Senior Bennett Ruby (Waterloo, Ontario) added an even-par first-round of 71.
Through 15 holes in the second round, Ruby collected a pair of birdies and an eagle over a five-hole span to set him up for a nice round when place resumes Tuesday at 8 a.m. The final 18 holes will be completed after the conclusion of the second round.
Ryan Dupuy, who shot 76 on his first circuit, was one-under through 15 holes when play was suspended. Latter, Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) and Cameron Guidry (Picayune, Miss.), all were even in the second round when play stopped. Rattanayanon fired a 74 in the opening round, while Guidry shot a 77.
