
Golden Eagles Sit in Second After Opening Day of The Judson

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Six Golden Eagles sit inside the top 15 following the opening 36 holes of The Judson at Hattiesburg Country Club on Monday. Meanwhile, the women's golf team is in second on the team leaderboard.
Heading into Southern Miss' annual home tournament, Louise Cuyvers' career-best round was a one-over 73, which came at the Hawkeye Invitational and The Ally. The freshman bested that today as she opened with a one-under 71 and followed that with an even-par round in the afternoon. Cuyvers sits in fourth, six strokes out of first place. Taylor Trible is behind Cuyvers in fifth.
Trible used a one-under 71 in the morning round to set the tone for the day and then fired a one-over 73 in the second round. She had six birdies on the day. Elena Melich added another round of under-par golf for Southern Miss as she carded a two-under 70 in the second round. Her first round was a four-over 70 in the morning. Momoka Ando, Ragini Navet and Alma Betoret are all locked into a four-way tie for 12th.
The best round from the trio was an even-par 72 from Navet in the afternoon. She started her day with a five-over 77, while Ando had a two-over 74 and a three-over 75. Betoret's second-round 73 helped her climb the leaderboard after a four-over 76 in the first round. Jacee Fields is in a tie for 18th, while Fernanda Gorostiaga is in 47th.
The Golden Eagles trail Tarleton State by six strokes after going three-over as a team. The Texans were the lone team to go under-par, finished three-under. Jacksonville State is in third place after shooting 20-over. Tarleton State owns the top three spots on the individual leaderboard, while Cuyvers is in fourth.
The final round tees off on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Admission to Hattiesburg Country Club is free.
