Men’s Golf Tied for 10th After Opening Round of Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario) fired an even-par 72 in the opening round of the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational Saturday to help put Southern Miss in a 10th-place tie in Saucier, Miss.
Javier, who sits tied for 13th-place after 18 holes, paced the Golden Eagles to a 12-over 300 for the opening round as they are tied with both UNLV and Kansas.
Following Javier in the scoring was junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) with a 74 which puts him tied for 29th. Redshirt freshman Matthew Downing (Oxford, Miss.), playing as an individual, also sits in 29th with a 74 as well during his opening round.
Sophomores Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand) and Tommy Latter (Mississauga, Ontario) each added a 77 to sit in a 55th-place tie, while senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) is in a 68th-place tie after firing a first-round 79.
Georgia leads the team competition with a 287, followed by Mississippi State, LSU and Ole Miss who are all tied for second with a round of 289. South Carolina rounds out the top five with a 293.
Round two will tee off on hole No. 1 beginning at 9:30 a.m., as well as hole No. 10 at 9:50 am.
