IOWA CITY, Iowa --Â Louise Cuyvers proved to be a bright spot on Tuesday for the Southern Miss women's golf team as the freshman fired a one-over 73 to help the Golden Eagles to a seventh-place finish at the Diane Thomason Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.Â
"Finkbine provided a great test for our ladies and was a challenging course set up that demanded a lot of from the field," said Southern Miss head coach Colton Cowan. "Overall, a lot of really good moments from our ladies showing resiliency, being patient, and taking what the course gives you. Then other times, little errors due to the setup of the course made it hard to truly recover. There's a lot to learn and take away from this week. We will continue to roll and get ready for Mississippi State.
"Louise played a fantastic round today -- with north winds of 20 mph -- and really did a great job of staying in control, and minimizing her mistakes"
Cuyvers' mostly mistake-free day featured the first eagle of her collegiate hole on hole 15. The clutch shot was mashed together with a stretch of three bogeys over five holes — the eagle negated two of those bogeys. The Belgian finished in a tie for 13th, while Elena Melich ended her tournament at Finkbine Golf Course in a tie for 19th. Â
Taylor Trible and Momoka Ando both finished in 25th after shooting a 233 over the three rounds, while Jacee Fields finished in 61st.
The Golden Eagles will take the next three weeks to regroup before taking on The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.Â
