
Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth in Three-Day, 54-Hole Badger Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Despite a season-low round of 68 from freshman Matthew Javier of Toronto, Ontario, the Southern Miss men's golf team finished ninth in the 16-team Badger Invitational that was completed Tuesday in Madison, Wis.
The third and final round, which took place at the par 72, 7,286-yard University Ridge Golf Course, saw Javier put together his fourth par or below round this fall to enjoy his first collegiate Top 10 finish by tying for fifth in the 90-player field with a 212-stroke total.
Junior transfer Will Burham (Jackson, Miss.) finished second among the Golden Eagles, as he collected a 77 over his first circuit for a 220 total and a 25th-place tie. Senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La) got saddled with his highest round of the event, shooting a 79, to place tied for 32nd with a 221 total score.
Sophomore Supakorn Amornchaichan (Pattaya City, Thailand) added a final-round 77 for a 228 total and a 63rd-place tie, while redshirt freshman Matthew Downing (Oxford, Miss.) posted a 79 for a 233 and in a 77th-place tie.
The Golden Eagles shot a 15-over 303 as a team score over the final 18 holes and ended the event with an 877 total. Northern Illinois won the team event with a nine-under 855, followed by Long Beach State and Wisconsin (858), Illinois State, Memphis and Washington State (870), Nebraska (873), Minnesota (875), the Golden Eagles and Ball State and South Dakota State (892) to round out the top 10.
The Golden Eagles return to action for the final time this fall, Oct. 19-21, at the Fallen Oak Collegiate at Fallen Oak Golf Club in Saucier.
