
Indoor Track Travels to Nashville for Vanderbilt Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Indoor Track and Field teams return to action this weekend when they travel to Nashville to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational, Friday, and Saturday, at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.
The Golden Eagles are fresh of their opening event in which they tallied 32 top eight finishes including 15 from the women's and 17 from the men.
That included six event winners including De'Aundre Ward, who captured the long jump competition with a mark of 7.48 meters, earning him Sun Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Week.
Two other Southern Miss track athletes, placed in a pair of events, including Za'Isha Fraser and Piers Cameron.
Fraser won the women's triple jump with a mark of 12.33 meters, while also finishing fourth in the long jump at 5.66 meters. Cameron won the men's weight throw at 16.97 meters and a third place in the shot put at 16.60 meters.
The Golden Eagles also broke a pair of school records in the 300 meters, as Trinity Benson did it on the women's side (39.03) and Javel Fullerton (34.23) accomplished that feat on the men's side.
The meet begins Friday at 9 a.m. with the heptathlon and at 9:20 a.m. with pentathlon, with running events starting at 6 pm. On Saturday the completion of the heptathlon gets the day started at 8:30 a.m., with running events set to get going at 12 noon.
