
Women's Golf Primed for Season Opener in Mobile

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf team will open the 2023-24 season on Saturday morning at the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala. The three-day event will be held at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Course.Â
As Lucy Nunn Burke embarks on her sixth season with the Golden Eagles, she will take all eight rostered student-athletes to the tournament. The five playing for a team score are Ragini Navet, Elena Melich, Alma Betoret, Momoka Ando and Taylor Trible. Merche Corbacho, Jacee Fields and Fernanda Gorostiaga will be playing as individuals. Navet, a freshman from New Delhi, India, is the lone newcomer to the squad this season.Â
Ando is coming off a sophomore campaign that saw her set the low individual stroke average record at 73.57. Not far behind, Melich set the third-best stroke average in program history at 73.90. Both Fields (75.00) and Trible (76.17) are in the top-20, too.Â
Other teams in the field include Little Rock, Georgia State, ULM, Memphis, Jacksonville State, Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee, Troy and South Alabama. The Golden Eagles will tee off at 8:30 with a shotgun start. Hole designations are still being determined.Â
