Southern Miss Cross Country Opens 2023 Season in Clinton

HATTIESBURG, Miss.—The Southern Miss Cross Country team opens its season at the Mississippi College Opener in Clinton, MS., on Sep. 1 at Choctaw Trails at 6:45 p.m.
The women's 5K will commence at 6:45 p.m. and will feature returners Sarah Parnell and Isabela Ross, along with a few new members to the program. Kendall Drisko, Brynn Kelso, Sylvia White, and Kristina Stojanovic.
Entering the season, the Golden Eagles have been selected to secure the second position in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches' poll, and they have attained the eighth rank in the South Region according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. This marks the program's first appearance in the USTFCCCA top-10 preseason poll since 2019.
Mississippi College Opener: The Golden Eagles' previous presence in Clinton dates back to 2017 where they achieved a first-place victory as nine out of the ten athletes finished the race within the top 10.
The Breakdown: The race will feature a range of schools, such as Belhaven, Blue Mountain, Delta State, Grambling State, Jackson State, Meridian Community College, Millsaps, Mississippi Valley, Moss Point, Rhodes, Shelton State Community College, Southern Arkansas, Tougaloo, ULM, Wiley, William Carey, and competition hosts Mississippi College.
