Golden Eagle Professional Baseball Update (7/31)

HATTIEBURG, Miss. – Eighteen former Southern Miss baseball players currently are part of affiliated professional baseball with two currently playing in the big leagues, including Cleveland Guardians reliever Nick Sandlin and Minnesota Twins outfielder/designated hitter Matt Wallner.
One former Golden Eagle right-handed pitcher, Landon Harper, threw the final 2 1/3 innings of a seven-inning no-hitter last night for the Augusta Greenjackets, who play in the Single-A Atlanta affiliate in the Carolina League. The Greenjackets won at Charleston 2-0.
Another right-handed pitcher, Tyler Stuart, who has ascended to Double A Binghamton (N.Y.) this season for the New York Mets organization after getting drafted last year, has posted a cumulative 5-0 record with a 1.83 ERA and 94 strikeouts with only 27 with a pair of teams this season.
Catcher Chuckie Robinson continues to swing the bat well for Triple-A Louisville (Cincinnati) as he has posted a .327 batting average with nine home runs and 54 RBI in 2023.
Wallner, who was called up by the Twins just after the all-star break earlier this month, has homered four times in 13 games since his recall with five RBI.
Four Golden Eagles, Dustin Dickerson, Matthew Etzel, Tanner Hall and Justin Storm, were all drafted in the 2023 MLB Draft earlier this month and each signed with the organization that picked them. They, though, have not been assigned to a team yet.
