Golden Eagles Land in Daytona for Sun Belt Tournament

DAYTONA, Fla. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf team has landed in Daytona, Fla. for the Sun Belt Championships. The three-day event will tee off on Sunday at LGPA National, a premier golf club home to several LPGA Championship events.Â
Lucy Nunn Burke tabbed the following golfers as her squad for the week: Elena Melich, Momoka Ando, Taylor Trible, Alma Betoret, Fernanda Gorostiaga and Jacee Fields (substitute). The golf course is playing as a par-72 at 6,290Â yards.Â
The field includes ULM, James Madison, Georgia State, Texas State, Old Dominion, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Troy, South Alabama, Coastal Carolina, Marshall and App State. According to GolfStat.com, ULM is the top-ranked team in the field with an average score of 292.50. The Warhawks also have a conference-best four wins to their name. Southern Miss is rated sixth with an average score of 296.97 and have one win -- the Hoover Classic.Â
Melich leads the Golden Eagles in stroke average right now at 73.4 strokes per round. The sophomore is coming off an eighth-place finish at the ULM Invitational two weeks ago. Ando is shot-for-shot with Melich, averaging 73.7 strokes per round. Ando's best finish this season was a second place showing at the Hoover Classic. Trible will be making her 10th appearance of the season and is averaging a little over 76 strokes per round.Â
