
Ando Paces Golden Eagles to Open Sun Belt Tournament

DAYTONA, Fla. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf rattled off a 301 during the opening round of the Sun Belt Championships on Sunday morning to slide into eighth place. Sophomore Momoka Ando enjoyed a two-under 70 at LPGA International to sit in a tie for third through the first 18 holes.Â
Ando started her round on hole 10 and proceeded to birdie 13 and 18 to finish the back nine at two-under par. The Tokyo, Japan native then delivered two more birdies on the front nine to erase two bogey's along the way. She is two shots off the leaders -- Leah Onosota (Old Dominion) and Marine Griffaut (Texas State) -- who fired a four-under 68.Â
Freshman Fernanda Gorostiaga had a solid postseason debut as she carded a one-over 73. She sits in a tie for 12th with two rounds ahead of her. Taylor Trible finished with a six-over 78. Alma Betoret and Elena Melich both dipped into the 80's on Sunday.Â
Texas State (286) leads the as the only team to go under par today. ULM (291), Georgia Southern (292), Arkansas State (296) and Old Dominion (297) round out the top five.Â
Round two gets underway on Monday morning at 7 a.m. CST. Melich will be the first Golden Eagle off the tee box and the rest will follow every nine minutes until 7:36 a.m. CST.Â
