Women's Golf Heads to Lone Star State for Trinity Forest Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Fresh off a second-place finish in Louisiana last week, the Southern Miss women's golf team is now preparing for the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas. The two-day event will be played March 6 and 7 at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
Trinity Forest is playing at a par-72 and roughly 6,464 yards. It's the first time Southern Miss has played in Texas since February of 2020. They finished 11th at the Texas State Invitational in Kyle.
The field in Dallas includes 11 teams ranked in the top 100 in the country. Alongside the Golden Eagles, the field includes Cal Poly, Dallas Baptist, Fresno State, Houston, Incarnate Word, Kent State, Seattle, SMU, South Florida, Texas State, Tulane, Tulsa, UAB and UTSA.
Lucy Nunn Burke tabbed Momoka Ando, Elena Melich, Fernanda Gorostiaga, Taylor Trible and Jacee Fields for the lineup this week. Freshman Alma Betoret is playing as an individual.
Ando enjoyed a solid outing her last time out, placing fourth at the Tchefuncta Invitational, The Tokyo, Japan fired a pair of 71's and then followed with a 77 in the final round. Betoret makes her return to the lineup after missing the last tournament.
Betoret, a native of Valencia, Spain, last saw action at the Tulane Classic in early February. She finished in 39th on the individual leaderboard. Melich has enjoyed four-straight top-10 finishing dating back to the Lady Red Wolves Classic in October.
The Golden Eagles will tee off at 8 a.m. on holes 15-18 over five different groupings. Betoret and Gorostiaga are the only two Golden Eagles in the same pairing.
