HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss baseball returns to the road this weekend when they travel to Troy for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
Â
The series will include a 6 p.m., Friday contest, followed by a 3 p.m., Saturday game and a 1 p.m. Sunday tilt. All three games can be seen via ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
Â
The Troy series opens a string of playing 12 of the next 16 games away from Pete Taylor Park.
Â
The Golden Eagles were supposed to start this road swing with a Tuesday midweek contest versus Ole Miss at Trustmark Park in Pearl, but the game was called in the bottom of the fourth inning with Southern Miss leading 2-1 due to unplayable field conditions. The game was called after several instances of sod dislodged from the field causing players to slip. The game was called a no contest and it will not be replayed this season. The Golden Eagles have played in Pearl almost yearly since the 2006 season.
Â
Southern Miss and Troy have played 31 times in baseball dating back to the 1998 season. The Golden Eagles lead the series, 19-12, including a 9-7 victory over the Trojans on March 10, 2020, which turned out to be the last game for the Golden Eagles that season before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
In 2023, the Golden Eagles have played 10 games that have been decided by two runs or less this season and are 7-3 in those contests. The team is 5-2 in one run games and 2-1 in two-run games. Since the start of the 2010 season under Scott Berry, the Golden Eagles are 180-119 in games decided by two runs or less, including 111-74 in one-run games. Last weekend, all three Georgia Southern contests by one or two runs.
Â
Following the Troy series, Southern Miss returns home for a Tuesday non-conference game against Southeastern Louisiana. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
