Women's Golf Travels West for Mountain View Collegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf team is headed West as it travels to Tucson, Ariz. for the Mountain View Collegiate at MountainView Golf Club. It's the fifth-straight season the Golden Eagles have been invited to the event that is hosted by Missouri and Kansas State, which also features 11 teams ranked inside the top-50. The three-day event starts on Friday and will conclude Sunday afternoon.Â
The 17-team field includes No. 34 Arkansas, No. 36 Houston, No. 26 Iowa State, Kansas State, Missouri, No. 49 Nebraska, No. 41 New Mexico, New Mexico State, No. 50 North Carolina, No. 44 North Texas, No. 23 Ohio State, No. 6 San Jose State, Southern Miss, No. 37 TCU, No. 42 Tulsa, Wisconsin and UNLV. The 6,352-yard course is playing at a par 72.Â
Southern Miss head coach Lucy Nunn Burke tabbed the following golfers for the lineup this week: Elena Melich, Momoka Ando, Alma Betoret, Taylor Trible and Jacee Fields. All five Golden Eagles competed in Texas last week at the Trinity Forest Invitational. Melich leads all Southern Miss individuals with a 73.3 stroke average this season, while Ando's second-place finish at the Hoover Classic is the best finish for any Golden Eagle this season.Â
Betoret, one of two freshman competing this weekend, is averaging 75.6 strokes per round over the course of six tournaments. Trible, the other freshman, is averaging 76.5 strokes. Fields is making her eighth start this season and averaging 76.5 strokes. Southern Miss is coming off a 14th-place showing in Dallas last time out, but have posted four top-five team finishes this season.
