TUCSON, Ariz. -- Southern Miss sophomore Momoka Ando fired a one-under 71 during the final round of the Mountain View Collegiate as the women's golf team finished in 17th-place during the three-day event. Ando, who finished in a tie for 33rd, was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles.
"How steady was Mo this week?" said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "Lost in the hustle and bustle of the low scores from the field, Mo is starting to hit her stride at the right time. The desert gave our group a ton of hard truths and lessons this week. And as much as the struggles hurt now, it's only setting us up for what's to come in April."
Following a triple bogey on her eighth hole, Ando settled in to record four birdies down the stretch. The score helped her to a three-under on the back nine. Taylor Trible's two-over 74 was her best round of the weekend and moved up to 81st on the individual leaderboard.
Elena Melich finished in a tie for 63rd after her three-over 75 on Sunday morning at MountainView Golf Club. Jacee Fields and Alma Betoret each fired a five-over 77 today to finish in a tie for 86th.
Iowa State set the lowest 54-hole team score in NCAA history after firing a combined 60-under for the tournament. The team posted an 804 (280-265-259) three-round total to claim the NCAA record by 10 shots over Stanford's previous 814 tally back in 2022. Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn tied the NCAA individual 54-hole scoring record with a 25-under performance.
Southern Miss will be back in action on April 3 and 4 in Monroe, La. at the Warhawk Invitational. The two-day event will be played at Calvert Crossing Golf Club.
