
Lady Eagles Bounce Back with Dominant Victory Over South Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss overcomes a slow start against South Alabama thanks to Jacorriah Bracey's double-double performance. The Lady Eagles finished off the Jaguars 61-40 on the heels of a 38-point second-half.
Tale of the Tape
The Lady Eagles found themselves down 16-10 at the end of the first quarter after South Alabama took the lead with 8:50 left in the opener. The Jags held on through the second quarter, responding each of Southern Miss' counters.
At the half, Southern Miss and South Alabama were tied at 23 apiece with Melyia Grayson (Hattiesburg, Miss. // Hattiesburg HS) leading the Lady Eagles with seven points. Southern Miss finished the first half with a 42.9 percent shooting clip thanks to a 5-of-9 second quarter.
Southern Miss once again rallied in the third quarter, outpacing South Alabama 17-10 in the frame. Lauren Gross (Southaven, Miss. // Northpoint Christian) dropped eight points on three buckets to lead all scorers in the quarter.
Coach McNelis' crew grabbed its largest lead of the day—a 21-point margin—and held on for the rest of the period. A McNelis timeout with two-and-a-half minutes to play traded out the starters for the bench.
Bracey (Drew, Miss. // Ole Miss) slowly but surely racked up 15 points and 12 boards for her first career double-double, leading the Lady Eagles in both categories.
Southern Miss managed to cross the 60-point barrier for the first time in four games, even with Domonique Davis and Lani Cornfield out today to rest from injury.
