Men's Tennis Closes Texas Trip With Win Over Prairie View A&M

BEAUMONT, Texas -- The Southern Miss (4-4, 0-0 SBC) men's tennis team picked up a much-needed win over Prairie View A&M on Tuesday afternoon after dropping a heartbreaker to Lamar on Monday. The Golden Eagles blanked the Panthers via a 7-0 score in Beaumont after falling 4-3 to the Cardinals yesterday.

"It was good to see the guys bounce back after a heartbreaking loss to Lamar yesterday," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We were able to rest some guys against Prairie View A&M and hopefully that will help us against LSU next week.

Olimjon Nabiev moved to 7-1 after beating Lamar's Joan Crespo on Monday. Nabiev then picked up a doubles win with Antoine Audrain on Tuesday against Prairie View A&M, cruising to a 6-2 win over Jaydn Boone and Caleb Eaton. Dakotah Bobo and Alan Sanson picked up singles win against Lamar, but Filippi Salsini came from behind against Shamirul Shahril to clinch the match for Lamar. The Cardinals took the doubles point with wins on court one and three.

Southern Miss responded with six wins in singles play against the Panthers on Tuesday and all came via sweeps. Saheb Sodhi, Taras Ignatiuk, Pasawee Reansuwong, Pawin Jirapoomdaje, Sanson and Bobo all grabbed a win. Alexander Gima and Sanson joined Nabiev and Audrain with a doubles win against Prairie View A&M. The Golden Eagles' second pairing won 6-2, while Nabiev and Audrain won 6-4.

The Golden Eagles are back in action at LSU on Saturday, Feb. 25. First serve in Baton Rouge, La. is set for 1 p.m.
