HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team (3-3, 0-0 SBC) heads to Beaumont, Texas for a pair of matches on Monday and Tuesday morning. The Golden Eagles will open with Lamar (6-5, 0-0 Southland) on Monday at 11 a.m. before playing Prairie View A&M (0-9, 0-1 SWAC) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
"This week is going to be crucial for us after that tough loss on Friday against Samford," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "I am proud of the way our doubles matches have been going and I think that can continue to be a strong spot for our team going forward."
Southern Miss is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Samford on Friday afternoon where the Bulldogs came from behind to beat the Golden Eagles 4-3. Despite the loss, Southern Miss still owns a 10-6 doubles mark, but also dropped the doubles point for the first time since the season opener at Florida Gulf Coast. In singles play, Olimjon Nabiev picked up his team-leading fifth win after dismanting Samford's No. 3 player.
Southern Miss is 16-19 on the season in singles play. Pawin Jirapoomdaje is second on the team in wins with three, while Dakotah Bobo and Antoine Audraine each have two. Four other players have at least one win.
Lamar dropped a 7-0 decision at LSU on Feb. 12 that snapped a three-match winning streak that featured wins over UT Rio Grande Valley and two over Alcorn State. Max Amling leads all Cardinals with five wins. Prairie View A&M in 0-9 and has picked up only four individual wins.
