
Lady Eagles Take Georgia State to School

ATLANTA – Southern Miss survives Georgia State's second half comeback attempt to move earn their 10th Sun Belt victory of the season in a 71-57 win over the Panthers. The Lady Eagles were led by Domonique Davis' 20-point performance and complemented by Lani Cornfield's 15.
Tale of the Tape
Southern Miss (17-9, 10-5 Sun Belt) enjoyed a rare fast-paced start to begin the game, scoring a season-best 21 points in the opening frame. The Lady Eagles opened the game 6-0 before the Panthers tied it at nine points each.
Southern Miss closed the first quarter on a 12-point run to lead 21-9 after 10 minutes of play. The Lady Eagles lost the second quarter 19-16 but built enough of a cushion to lead 37-28 at the half.
The Lady Eagles finished the last five minutes of the first half scoreless as Georgia State stomred back with a 10-0 run to end the half.
In the third quarter, the two teams fought back and forth with the Panthers escaping the quarter with a 16-15 advantage but still trailed 52-43.
Domonique Davis closed the door on the Panthers in the fourth quarter via an 8-of-10 performance at the charity stripe. Davis finished the fourth with 12 of her 20 points on the day.
Lani Cornfield poured on 15 points and had two three-point baskets on the morning.
Southern Miss outrebounded the Panthers 40-22 – the 18-board differential is the largest since the Lady Eagles had 21 more rebounds than App State earlier this year.
