HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss (2-4, 0-0 SBC) men's tennis team will make its long-awaited home debut this weekend as it hosts Alcorn State (0-6, 0-0 SWAC) at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex on Sunday at 11 a.m. Admission to the match is free.
"It's been a long time coming for us to play at home after our original matches got postponed," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "The time off since our last match has allowed us to work on some things that we needed to clean up."
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 4-3 win over Texas Rio Grande Valley in which Olimjon Nabiev picked up his team-leading third win. Prior to that match, they dropped a 5-2 decision to Texas A&M - Corpus Christi in Lafayette, La. Six different Golden Eagles have picked up at least one win this season. Antoine Audrain and Nabiev are 2-0 in doubles play together, while Alexander Gima and Alan Sanson are both 2-0. Southern Miss has picked up the doubles point in three of its four matches and has won at least one doubles game in each contest.Â
Alcorn State has dropped all seven of its matches and have claimed only four points. The Braves have dropped matches against Jacksonville State, Saint Louis (x2), Troy, UAB, Nicholls and Lamar.
