HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss Soccer team (6-5-1, 3-1-1 SBC) delivered a 2-1 victory over Georgia State (7-2-3, 3-1-0 SBC) with freshman Abby Badurak's go-ahead goal in the second half at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex Thursday.
The match's early stages saw Southern Miss struggle to gain control of the ball, with Georgia State dominating possession, tallying six shots compared to the Golden Eagles' two. Georgia State managed to break the deadlock in the 37th minute when Alondra Nieves received a throw-in and unleashed a long-range strike from outside the box that was able to get past Alex Helbling.
However, Southern Miss mounted a remarkable comeback, equalizing the score when sophomore Bernadett Stefan converted a penalty kick, marking her first goal of the season and the third of her career. The pivotal moment arrived when freshman Abby Badurak, with a deft touch of her left foot from the right side of the penalty area, notched her inaugural collegiate goal. This heroic effort secured the Golden Eagles' third comeback win in conference play and fourth of the season, leaving Georgia State stunned.
