Soccer Wrapped up the Regular Season With a 3-3 Tie; SBC Tournament Bracket Released

SAN MARCOS, Texas– The Southern Miss Soccer team (6-8-3, 3-4-3 SBC) clinches their spot in the SBC Tournament with a 3-3 draw to Texas State (8-6-4, 3-3-4 SBC) at the Bobcat Soccer Complex Thursday night.
In the match's opening minute, Chloe Taylor unleashed a shot that sailed wide to the left, marking the first attempt of the evening. Shortly after, the Golden Eagles secured their initial corner kick, and it seemed like Lexy Griffin might head it in, but the ball soared over the crossbar.
A crucial moment occurred when Alex Helbling was drawn out of position, and the ball deflected off of her to Bobcat defender Addison Peters. Seizing the opportunity, forward Olivia Wright capitalized on the loose ball, slotting it into the empty net to put Texas State on the scoreboard within the first ten minutes of play.
In the 26th minute, midfielder Mya Ulloa outmaneuvered two Golden Eagle defenders and skillfully placed her shot beyond Helbling, thanks to assists from Wright and Peters.
As the clock ticked to the 39th minute, freshman Abby Badurak fired a shot from 12 yards outside the box that found its mark, eluding the grasp of keeper Caitlyn Draper, giving her a third goal for the season.
With just nine seconds remaining in the first half, Victoria Clark notched her first goal of the season, equalizing the score.
At the close of the first half, the Black and Gold held the advantage in shots, leading 10-7, with five of them on target, resulting in a level score.
Seven minutes into the second half, Alice Williamson scored her second goal of the year, giving the Golden Eagles a one-goal lead. This goal resulted from a well-executed play initiated by Abby Badurak, who provided the pass to Williamson. She then headed the ball into the goal, narrowly evading the outstretched reach of the Bobcat goalkeeper. The most recent instance of three Golden Eagles finding the net in a game occurred on September 10 when they faced Nicholls State and won with a score of 6-0, keeping the Colonels from scoring.
On the second occasion, the ball bounced off Helbling as Mady Soumare attempted a shot towards the bottom center of the net with 15 minutes remaining. However, it was thwarted by a team save by Tay Collum. Moments later, another member of the Bobcats took a shot that veered wide to the left.
The Bobcats had an opportunity to equalize the score with a penalty kick, but Peters missed to the left. In a surprising twist, Chloe Jones scored with just one second left on the clock, leveling the score at 3-3.
The Golden Eagles are scheduled to compete in the SBC Championships in Foley, Ala., starting on Oct. 30th. Their first-round match against Georgia State is set for 4 p.m. CT. Live stats and streaming will be accessible.
