WEST POINT, Miss. -- Momoka Ando finished as the top Southern Miss women's golfer for the fourth consecutive time this season as the junior finished tied for 17th at The Ally in West Point, Miss. Ando tore through Old Waverly in Wednesday's round, firing a one-under 71.Â
"We left Old Waverly today on a more positive note," said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. "This is a championship style golf course that exposed a lot of weaknesses within our group, and it was hard to overcome a rough start in Round 1. Thankfully, we've got a short turn around into The Judson to really end the fall season on a high note."
Ando's 71 was a four-stroke improvement from her Tuesday round, and a five-stroke improvement from Monday's opening round. Ragini Navet, who was playing as an individual, fired a two-over 74 en route to having her best day of the tournament to finish tied for 49th. Navet's first two rounds were a seven-over 79 and a six-over 78. Elena Melich also fired her best round of the week, shooting a three-over 75 that included four birdies.
Taylor Trible fired a four-over 78 to slide into a tie for 57th, while Jacee Fields used an eight-over 80 to finish in 62nd. Fields' 80 was her best round of the three-day event. Merche Corbacho carded an 11-over 83 today, which was also her lowest round of the week.Â
Ando's 13 birdies in 54 holes of play were the third-most by any player in the field. Melich added nine birdies, while Navet and Fields each had six. The Golden Eagles finished in 12th on the team leaderboard. Florida won the tournament as the only team to shoot under par. Mississippi State, Indiana, Tulsa and LSU rounded out the top five.Â
The Golden Eagles will head back to Hattiesburg to host The Judson on Oct. 30-31. The two-day event will be held at Hattiesburg Country Club. Admission to the event is free.Â
