HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss Soccer team (6-8-2, 3-4-2 SBC) concluded their home season with a riveting match against ULM (9-2-6, 4-1-4 SBC), resulting in a 2-2 draw. This was the second tie of the season for the Golden Eagles.
The excitement began when Chloe Taylor netted an impressive, unassisted goal in the 18th minute. Taylor orchestrated a remarkable solo run from midfield, launching a skillful shot from just over five yards outside the box that eluded the goalkeeper's reach and nestled into the back of the net.
Just before the halftime whistle, Adaira Nakano added another goal for the Black and Gold, utilizing her left foot to put the ball into the back of the net with an assist from Abby Badurak. The Black and Gold led ahead at halftime for the first time in conference play, marking the first time ULM trailed in a conference match.
The Warhawks, however, wasted no time in responding. Three minutes into the second half, Emelie Kobler found the back of the net after Inge Konst skillfully maneuvered Alex Helbling out of position, creating the perfect opportunity for the successful shot.
With just 15 minutes remaining in the game, Lena Goppel notched an unassisted goal for ULM, leveling the score at 2-2. Despite both teams' best efforts, they could not break the deadlock, leading to the final draw. ULM outshot the Golden Eagles 12-6, and Alex Helbling made four saves to the Warhawk's one.
Next Up: The Southern Miss Soccer team will head to San Marcos, Texas, for their last regular-season match against Texas State on Oct. 26. The event will be live streamed on ESPN+.
