Men's Tennis Enjoys Strong Weekend at Cajun Classic

LAFAYETTE, La. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team enjoyed 16 wins at the Cajun Classic this weekend in Lafayette, La. All seven Golden Eagles that traveled earned at least one win.
Three Southern Miss doubles teams advanced out of the first round, while Olimjon Nabiev and Pawin Jirapoomdaje picked up two wins as a duo. The pair dropped out of the main draw in the second round but bounced back with a 6-2 win over Jack Clemens and Juan Accossatto of South Alabama in the consolation round.
Dakotah Bobo, Henry Lamchinniah, Shamirul Shahril, Jirapoomdaje and Nabiev all finished with two wins in singles play. Jirapoomdaje and Lamchinniah were the only two Golden Eagles to advance out of the first round in the main draw. Jirapoomdaje cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 sweep over Thomas Garbarino (Louisiana). Meanwhile, Lamchinniah knocked off defeated Louisiana's Grant Landreth, 6-4, 6-2.
Following his win over Landreth, Lamchinniah picked up another win over Mason Landreth to advance to the third round of the main draw. He ultimately fell out in the third round, losing to Tulane's Sam Scherer in straight sets.
