NATCHITOCHES, La.--The Southern Miss women's tennis team finished strong winning two singles titles on day two of the Women's Care Lady Demon Invitational in Natchitoches, La. Saturday, Sept. 17.
"I am happy that the team won two individual titles. Congratulations to Freshman Hannah Chambers for an outstanding title run in her first event for the Lady Eagles against Louisiana Angelique Berrat. Hannah showed great composure and found a way to win against a tough conference opponent. Clara showed marked improvement in winning her first title. This event gave us a lot of information to work on and improve in practice before the ITA regionals in October," said Head Coach Piyanart Engineer.
Junior Clara Tardivel won the final in the Black Singles Draw against Golden Eagle Alyssa Richter.
Newcomer Hannah Chambers won the final against Angeligue Berrat of Louisiana in the Orange Singles Draw.
Shevita Aulana lost a seventh-place title over Felica Black of Stephen F. Austin in the White Singles Draw.
In the Grey Singles Draw, freshman Maddison Ricardo lost to Laurie Line Monnoyer of ULL in the final of the Grey Single Draw.
In the Purple Doubles Draw, Ricardo and Richter were unable to advance to the final due to their loss over ULM.
Das and Tardivel did not compete in doubles competition in the Black Doubles Draw due to injury. The Orange Doubles Draw Aulana and Chambers had their victory over competition hosts Northwestern State 6-3.
Returner Ebru Zeynep Yazgan retired from competition on day two due to a shoulder injury. She fell in two matches against opponents from ULL and Tyler Junior College in the Purple Singles Draw yesterday. Golden Eagle Suhana Das grabbed herself the third-place title over Luci Raquin of ULL.
The Black & Gold look ahead to ITA Regionals in Baton Rouge, La., at LSU Thursday Oct.13.
