HATTIESBURG, Miss.—The Southern Miss women's tennis team heads to Baton Rouge, La., to participate in the ITA Southern Regional Tournament hosted by LSU.
"The women's tennis team is prepared and very excited to compete in the ITA Southern regionals at LSU. This event will allow us to compete with the best teams in the Southern Region," said head coach Piyanart Engineer.
Alyssa Richter, Clara Tardivel, Hannah Chambers, Suhana Das, Shevita Aulana, and Maddison Ricardo will represent Southern Miss in singles and doubles competitions.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association hosts 12 regional tournaments for Division I tennis players throughout the fall season. The finalists of the doubles events, as well as the title holders of the singles championships, qualify for the ITA Fall Championships at the conclusion of the season.
Fresh off an outstanding showing at the Women's Care Lady Demon Invitational competition in Natchitoches, Louisiana, on Sept.17, junior Tardivel enters this competition. On September 16–17, she defeated Golden Eagle Richter and won all three of her contests, claiming her first singles title.
Along with Chambers, Aulana is carrying momentum from their Natchitoches, Louisiana, performance earlier this season into Baton Rouge. The duo defeated the competition's hosts Northwestern State 6-3 in the doubles bracket, and newcomer Chambers upset Angeligue Berrat of Louisiana in the Orange Singles Draw final to win her first title.
The ITA Southern Regional begins on Oct.13 and, depending on each athlete's success, can finish as late as October 16.
