STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Golden Eagle track and field team wrapped up the regular season with a number of strong performances at the Mike Sanders Track Complex on the campus of Mississippi State over the weekend.
"Our team looked ready to go to San Antonio and compete well," said head coach Jon Stuart. "I thought Kenia Seals was phenomenal in both the 100 and 200 meters, and look for her to repeat those performances at the outdoor championships. Trinity Benson was right behind her with a really good meet as well. We'll get ourselves rested with a week off next week, and then be ready to go for our conference meet."
Seals took first in the 200 meters on Friday night with a time of 23.84, before following it up with a personal-best 11.42 for the best time in Conference USA this season. Benson was right on her heels in both races taking second in the 200M (23.84) and fourth in the 100M (11.65).
Corvell Todd earned second in the high jump with a leap of 6'11.5", while Sandra Szpott took first in the 1500M to finish first and improve her PR to 4:21.77 to close the opening day of competition.
Fred Moudani started Saturday with another win for the Black and Gold, tossing 61'4.25" to beat the field in the shot put, and was joined by Jordan Speer on the women's side with a top three finish in the event as well.
Continuing the winning ways for Southern Miss, Kate Mattox took first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.49.
Back on the men's side, Dylan Evans PR'd in the 800 meters to finish third, while Landon Chalden ran his best time of the season in the 400 meter hurdles to claim a second place finish.
Carlin Beal and Rebecca DeKay closed out the competition for the Golden Eagles finished second and third in the 3,000 meters.
