HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Although graduate student Dhruv Sunish picked up a win on a day where he was honored for his time as a Golden Eagle, the Southern Miss men's tennis team fell 4-3 to New Orleans on Monday afternoon.
"I am very proud of Dhruv [Sunish] for winning his final home match," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "Give credit to New Orleans, they are a great team and gave us a great match. We'll regroup and head to Virgina to start the postseason with one goal in mind."
The Golden Eagles (9-9, 0-3 C-USA) fell behind early as the Privateers (14-6, 2-1 Southland) took the doubles point with wins at the top two spots. Pasawee Reansuwong and Sunish were leading at the third position before it went unfinished.
Shamirul Shahril evened the match with a sweep against Espen Legarde on court two and notched his ninth win of the season. Olimjon Nabiev followed with a win on court three to also reach the nine-win mark and defeated David Tesic in straight sets. Sunish, the man of the hour, outlasted Max Heinzel in three sets to notch his final home win as a Golden Eagle.
