HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team will honor graduate student Dhruv Sunish on Monday afternoon as the Mumbai, India native takes the court for the final time at home as a Golden Eagle against New Orleans (13-6, 2-1 Southland). First serve from the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is scheduled for 2 p.m.
"Dhruv [Sunish] has been a tremendous addition to our team this season," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "He is a great role model to the younger guys and he really has held down his spot in the lineup for much of the season.
"Monday will be a good test against a very good team. FAU was probably one of the best teams we will see all season and I think we'll be able to bounce back after that loss. We've got one more match and then a few weeks to prepare for the conference tournament in Virginia."
The Golden Eagles (9-8, 0-3 C-USA) are coming off a loss to No. 47 FAU on the road last weekend, but they were riding a five-match winning streak prior to heading to Boca Raton. Pasawee Reansuwong and Sunish picked up a doubles win on court three, but that was all Southern Miss could muster against a ranked FAU squad.
In his lone season as a Golden Eagle, Sunish has recorded a 5-6 mark in singles play and an 8-8 mark in doubles play. Sunish played all but one match at the top singles spot and spent most of the season at the top doubles pairing. He has claimed singles wins against Jackson State (two), IUPUI, North Dakota and Nicholls.
