NEW ORLEANS -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team fell to the New Orleans Privateers in a close match on Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles won three singles matches but ultimately fell in their regular-season finale, 4-3.
Southern Miss (13-4, 2-1 C-USA) received singles wins from Sarah Medik, Maddison Ricardo and Clara Tardivel, but a pair of doubles losses and three singles defeats saw the Golden Eagles fall to the Privateers.
The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles point for just the third time this season. Both doubles contests that were completed were decided by two points or less, and the final math on court three was halted as UNO had clinched the opening point.
In singles competition, Medik gave the Golden Eagles a point on court one, as she defeated Ank Vullings in straight sets. On court four, Tardivel won a dominant match by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 and Ricardo secured a three-set win over Salma Abdelrahim.
However, three singles losses on courts two, three and six clinched the win for New Orleans. Southern Miss suffered just its fourth loss of the season and first against the Privateers since 2013.
