HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men's golf team returns to action for the second time this spring when they play in the Tiger Invitational by Jason Dufner, starting Sunday and running through Tuesday at the Robert Trent Jones Trail at the Grand National Lake course in Opelika, Ala.
The Golden Eagles will play 18 holes each day in the 54-hole tournament at the par 72, 7,289-yard course.
"We are looking forward to competing against a first-class field this week," said Southern Miss coach Eddie Brescher. "Our goal remains the same, take it one shot at a time to move into the Top 65 in the nation. We are currently a bubble team with a great opportunity to make a move. If we take care of business this week, we will be in a good position to make the postseason."
The Golden Eagles are one of six teams in this event ranked in the Top 100 in the latest weekly rankings, holding a spot at No. 77. Host Auburn is the top-ranked team in the event at No. 17, followed by No. 59 Missouri, No. 67 Florida Gulf Coast, No. 86 Lamar and No. 100 South Alabama.
The field also includes Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, Louisiana Tech, Missouri, North Alabama, UNC-Wilmington, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and Wichita State.
Southern Miss will go with the lineup of sophomore Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand), sophomore Robbie Latter (Mississauga, Ontario), senior Hunter Atkins (West Point, Miss.), senior Brice Wilkinson (Madison, Miss.) and freshman Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.). Sophomore Warwick Purchase (Pretoria, South Africa) will compete as an individual.
Due to expected possible inclement weather, the first round will start Sunday morning at 7 p.m.
