Women's Tennis Clinches 30th-Straight Home Victory Against MVSU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team defeated the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes on Sunday, March 27 in a 7-0 sweep. The Golden Eagles racked up their 30th-straight home victory and did not concede a set to the Devilettes, recording their sixth sweep of 2022.
The Black & Gold (10-2, 1-0 C-USA) controlled the match throughout the afternoon. Winning every set by scores of 6-0. The Golden Eagles won every set in a match for the first time this season.
Southern Miss opened the match with wins in all three doubles contests. Monique Burton and Shevita Aulana won their match on court one in their first match as a pair. Suhana Das and Clara Tardivel improved to 6-4 on the season, while Alyssa Richter and Maddison Ricardo picked up their first doubles win as a duo.
In singles competition, Monique Burton defeated Jeremyia Merritt in straight sets on court one, followed by another sweep on court two from Suhana Das. Clara Tardivel continued the strong play of the Golden Eagles with a win over Takiyah Wahhab.
Alyssa Richter picked up her sixth singles win of the season with a sweep of Naterra Young. Maddison Ricardo improved to 3-0 with a victory over Toi Carter in straight sets and Shevita Aulana picked up the first singles win of her career against Jacqueline LeFlore.

Southern Miss closes out its home schedule on Tuesday when the Golden Eagles take on the Alcorn State Braves. The Golden Eagles take the court at 2 p.m. at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex and admission is free.
