Southern Miss Sweeps Men's Tennis Doubleheader Against MVSU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team has now won four-straight home matches after sweeping its doubleheader against MVSU (0-13, 0-3 SWAC) earlier this afternoon. The Golden Eagles (8-7, 0-2 C-USA) swept both matches via a 7-0 score and MVSU failed to take a single set at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex.

"We played very well today and controlled the match from the start," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We're headed in the right direction, and it was nice to get some guys into the lineup today that normally aren't."

Dhruv Sunish/Pasawee Reansuwong and Shamirul Shahril/Pawin Jirapoomdaje each won 6-0 in doubles in the first match to give Southern Miss the early 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles then got wins in singles from Olimjon Nabiev, Antoine Audrain, Alexander Gima, Christopher Cahour and Jirapoomdaje. All five won 6-0, 6-0 -- Reansuwong won by forfeit in both matches.

It was a similar narrative in the second match with Southern Miss easily winning the doubles point. The Black and Gold got singles wins from Shahril, Nabiev, Audrain, Gima and Jirapoomdaje.

Shahril moved his winning streak to five matches and 8-4 on the season. Audrain and Nabiev each notched their seventh win the season, while Cahour picked up his sixth. The Golden Eagles are now 6-3 at home this season.

Southern Miss will finish its current homestand on Tuesday afternoon against Alcorn State. First serve from the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is slated for 2 p.m.
