HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â On the heels of a dramatic win over IUPUI in Orlando on Monday, the Southern Miss men's tennis team will continue its stay at the USTA National Tennis Campus with matches against North Dakota (Thursday) and St. Joseph's (Friday) to round out its spring break trip.Â
"We had a big win on Monday and I hope it helped set the tone for the rest of the week," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We've got two tough opponents these next two matches, but I liked the way we played on Monday and I think it will carry over to both matches."
The Golden Eagles (3-6, 0-2 C-USA) benefited from an Alan Sanson victory that completed the comeback win against the Jaguars on Monday. The win came after Southern Miss dropped the doubles point and subsequently rattled off four wins in singles play to notch its first win in five matches. Other Golden Eagles to grab a win included Dhruv Sunish, Olimjon Nabiev and Antoine Audrain. Pasawee Reansuwong and Sunish picked up a doubles win for the Black and Gold, but IUPUI grabbed the other two matches to take the point.Â
Shamirul Shahril, Sanson, Audrain, and Nabiev each have a team-leading three wins, while Sunish has two on court one. Although they have not competed together in a few weeks, Sunish and Shahril lead the Golden Eagles in doubles wins with three. Alexander Gima and Sanson are close behind with two wins -- one on court one and one on court two.Â
