HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â The Southern Miss men's tennis team will open its Florida spring break trip on Monday afternoon against IUPUI (4-10, 0-0 Horizon) in Orlando. First serve from the USTA National Tennis Campus is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.Â
"This is going to be a good trip to see where we are at at this point in the season," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We've had some tough matches recently, but we've still been playing well."
The Golden Eagles (2-6, 0-2 C-USA) will take the court for the first time in eight days on Monday after Friday's matchup at South Alabama was postponed due to inclement weather in the forecast. Southern Miss suffered a 4-1 loss on the road to Alabama State its last time out on March 6. Shamirul Shahril picked up his team-leading third win of the season in the loss, while Alexander Gima and Alan Sanson picked up their second win as a doubles pair.Â
IUPUI has a three-day head start in Orlando after splitting a pair of matches on Friday. The Jaguars bounced back from a morning loss to Radford with a 4-3 win against Long Island in the afternoon bout. Sean Bailey and Kamil Kazerski have a team-leading six wins each in singles play, while Alex Jochim owns a 4-8 mark at the top singles spot for IUPUI. The Jaguars' win on Friday was their fourth of the season.
The Road Ahead
Southern Miss will stay in Orlando to take on North Dakota (Thursday) and Saint Joseph's (Friday) at the USTA National Tennis Campus. Both matches are scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.Â
