Southern Miss Baseball Travels to Pearl to Face In-State Foe Mississippi State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team takes to the road for the first time in 2022 when they travel to Pearl, Wednesday, March 2, to face in-state foe Mississippi State in a 6 p.m. contest.
The Golden Eagles (5-2) play at Trustmark Park for the 34th time since the 2006 campaign. They play a Mississippi State squad that holds a 4-3 record prior to a Tuesday home contest against Grambling State.
Pitching has led the way for the Golden Eagles as they have posted a 1.88 team earned run average have fanned 84 batters, while walking 13. Through Sunday's games, the Golden Eagles rank first in the country in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.46), second in walks per nine innings (1.75), No. 13 in WHIP (0.93) and No. 15 in earned run average.
Sophomore righthander Tanner Hall (Zachary, La.) gets the call for the Golden Eagles. Hall will be making his third start of his career and has not posted a decision this season while registering a 2.84 ERA to go along with eight strikeouts and two walks in 6 1/3 innings.
Offensively, Reese Ewing has hit safely in all seven games for the Golden Eagles and holds a team lead in average at .500 with a pair of homers and five RBI. Sophomore Slade Wilks is next at .391 with six RBI.

Following the Mississippi State contest, the Golden Eagles go on the road to Lafayette, to face Louisiana in a three-game non-conference series. Game times are 6 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m., on Saturday and 1 p.m., Sunday.
