Women's Tennis Falls to Mississippi State in Starkville

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Southern Miss women's tennis team claimed the doubles point against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday morning but dropped its first match of the season by a score of 4-1. The loss snaps the Golden Eagles season-opening win streak.
The Golden Eagles (6-1, 1-0 C-USA) opened the match by clinching the doubles point from the Bulldogs in a pair of hard-fought wins. On court one, Monique Burton and Sarah Medik knocked off the pair of Magda Adaloglou and Chloe Cirotte in a 7-5 decision.
Monique Burton and Sarah Medik won a razor-close match against Magda Adaloglou and Chloe Cirotte, the No. 39 ranked pair in the nation. Southern Miss' pair defeated the Bulldogs' representatives, 7-5. Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter won a 7-6 decision, with a victory in the tiebreaker, 9-7. Suhana Das and Clara Tardivel fell in their doubles match, 6-4, but the Golden Eagles still clinched the 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles were unable to solve the Bulldogs in singles competition, as Southern Miss fell to Mississippi State by a score of 4-1. Das and Tardivel battled in close matchups which ended unfinished, but four-straight singles wins from Mississippi State ended the match and gave Southern Miss its first loss of the season.

The Golden Eagles return to the Southern Miss Tennis Complex on Thursday, March 3 for a match against Nicholls. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
