HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team will play the final match of its current five-game homestand on Saturday, as the Golden Eagles (2-3, 0-2 C-USA) prepare to host Louisiana. First serve from the Southern Miss Tennis Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m. Admission to the match is free.
"Louisiana is a very good team and we've spent the last couple of days prepping for Saturday," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We've lost the last two matches to quality teams, but I think our guys have continued to play well. Chris is a guy that played really well last weekend and I'm looking for him to continue that tomorrow."
The Ragin' Cajuns (10-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) come to Hattiesburg sporting a nine-match winning streak that dates to a 6-1 win against Tyler Junior College on Jan. 28. Southern Miss has lost back-to-back matches after falling to UAB last Sunday. It scored one point in the 4-1 loss, while Alexander Gima and Alan Sanson picked up a doubles win despite the Golden Eagles dropping the point. Christopher Cahour picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win in singles on court six. The win moved Cahour to 2-2 on the season.
Cahour's two wins are tied for the most by a Golden Eagle with Antoine Audrain, Olimjon Nabiev and Sanson. Shamirul Shahril and Dhruv Sunish lead the Black and Gold at the top doubles spot with a 3-2 mark. As a team, Southern Miss has six doubles wins.
Southern Miss and Louisiana meet for the first time since the Ragin' Cajuns beat the Golden Eagles in 2019. The meeting in Lafayette featured no current Golden Eagles.
