HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team ran into a scorching hot Louisiana (11-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) team on Saturday at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex, falling 6-1 to the Ragin' Cajuns.

"We fought hard in doubles today, but it wasn't enough, and it was a big point not to get," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "We have a few days before we go to Troy, so hopefully we can regroup and get ready for a tough stretch on the road.

The Golden Eagles (2-4, 0-2 C-USA) dropped the doubles point to the Ragin' Cajuns after losing a pair of close matches on court one and three. Pasawee Reansuwong and Shamirul Shahril were tied at five-all on court two when Louisiana locked up the doubles point.

Shahril picked up the lone singles win for Southern Miss after coming from behind to defeat Al Sanchez Gonzalez in three sets. The sophomore dropped the first set and won the second set, 6-3, then took the final set, 6-4. It was Shahrl's second win at singles this season and first since Feb. 12 against Chattanooga.

Southern Miss will embark a six-match road swing that starts at Troy on March 5.
