HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (7-9, 1-3 SBC) returns to action Saturday morning with a road match at North Alabama (10-8). First serve is set for 10 a.m. in Florence, Ala., as the Golden Eagles open the final stretch of the regular season.
Southern Miss enters the weekend after a 4-2 loss at Troy in its most recent outing. The Golden Eagles took the doubles point in that match behind wins from Jose Murariu and Saheb Sodhi on court one and Julius Bult and Eric Perkowski on court three, while Murariu added a three-set comeback win at No. 2 singles.
Saturday gives Southern Miss a chance to reset before closing the regular season with two more road matches next weekend at Louisiana and Nicholls. The Golden Eagles' spring schedule has pointed to this portion of April as the final push before the Sun Belt Championships later this month.
North Alabama comes into the match with momentum of its own. The Lions are 10-8 and most recently picked up a 4-3 road win over Stetson, a result that helped Alberto Altur earn ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors. UNA also listed Southern Miss as the first of three home matches to close the regular season.
Southern Miss will travel Eric Perkowski, Saheb Sodhi, Olle Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Jay Temming, Kale Mize, Jose Murariu and Julius Bult for the match, with Nicolas Simkin and Zubin Engineer accompanying the team.
