Men’s Tennis Splits Final Regular Season Weekend

Thibodaux, La. – Southern Miss (8-11, 1-4 SBC) closed the regular season with a split over the weekend, falling 4-1 at Louisiana (10-6, 2-0 SBC) on Saturday before bouncing back with a 4-0 win over Nicholls (4-15, 0-5 SLC) on Sunday. The Golden Eagles got a singles win from Saheb Sodhi in Lafayette, then answered with a strong all-around effort in Thibodaux to finish the regular season on a winning note.
Louisiana claimed the doubles point on Saturday with wins on courts three and one. Samuel Kyjaci and Gianluca Filoramo defeated Eric Perkowski and Julius Bult, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles before Mason Landreth and Leonard Tramolay followed with a 6-3 victory over Sodhi and Jose Murariu on court one. The No. 2 doubles match featuring Kale Mize and Jay Temming was left unfinished with Louisiana leading 5-3.
The Ragin' Cajuns built on that lead with straight-set singles wins on courts five and six. Darius Balan defeated Olle Noltorp, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 singles, and Nikola Kolyachev followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Ritabrata Sarkar on court six. Southern Miss answered on court three, where Sodhi earned the Golden Eagles' point with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kyjaci. Louisiana closed the match on court one as Landreth defeated Murariu, 6-1, 6-4. Mize and Bult both had matches left unfinished when the contest ended.
Southern Miss turned the page quickly on Sunday and took control early against Nicholls. The Golden Eagles secured the doubles point with wins on courts three and two. Sarkar and Perkowski opened with a 6-2 victory over Charlie DuBos and Mitchell Spence at No. 3 doubles, and Mize and Bult followed with a 6-3 win over Mitchell Armbruster and Arthur Oliani on court two. The No. 1 doubles match featuring Sodhi and Murariu was left unfinished with Southern Miss leading 5-3.
The Golden Eagles closed out the sweep with straight-set singles wins from three spots in the lineup. Sodhi defeated Armbruster, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles, Perkowski earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mateo De Los Santos on court four, and Bult sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Mitchell Spence at No. 5. Murariu, Mize and Noltorp all had matches left unfinished when Southern Miss secured the team result.
The weekend gave Southern Miss another strong showing from Sodhi, who supplied the team's lone point against Louisiana and followed with another straight-set win in the finale against Nicholls. Perkowski and Bult also helped lead Sunday's response, contributing in both doubles and singles as the Golden Eagles closed the regular season with momentum.
Southern Miss will now turn its attention to the Sun Belt Championships, which will begin April 16 in Rome, Georgia.
