HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (7-10, 1-3 SBC) heads back on the road this weekend to close the regular season with matches at Louisiana (9-6, 1-0 SBC) on Saturday and Nicholls (4-14, 0-5 SLC) on Sunday. The Golden Eagles are set for a 2 p.m. first serve in Lafayette on Saturday before wrapping up the weekend in Thibodaux on Sunday morning.
Southern Miss heads into the final weekend of the regular season looking to answer after a 6-1 loss at North Alabama last Saturday. Jose Murariu picked up the Golden Eagles' point in that match with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles, and Southern Miss now turns its attention to two more road tests before the Sun Belt Championships begin next week.
Saturday's opener in Lafayette brings a strong conference challenge. Louisiana has won three straight matches, including a 7-0 sweep of Nicholls on March 26 and a 4-3 road win at South Alabama on April 4. The Ragin' Cajuns have been sharp late in the season, and the weekend matchup gives Southern Miss another chance to build momentum against a team that enters with confidence.
Southern Miss then closes the regular season Sunday against Nicholls. The Colonels have played a heavy conference schedule down the stretch and will enter the match after hosting New Orleans on Thursday and Kentucky on Friday. Southern Miss has had the upper hand in the series, winning 12 of 13 all-time meetings, including a 5-2 result last season in Hattiesburg and a 6-1 road win in Thibodaux in 2023.
For the Golden Eagles, the weekend is the final push before postseason play begins in Rome. Southern Miss will travel Eric Perkowski, Saheb Sodhi, Olle Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Jose Murariu, Kale Mize, Julius Bult and Jay Temming for the trip.
