Oliwia Wawrzyniak Named Sun Belt Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for Second Time

New Orleans—Freshman Oliwia Wawrzyniak was named the Sun Belt Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time in a row this season; the league announced Oct. 5.
The Poland native led the Southern Miss squad placing fourth in the 5000- meter run at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark Friday, Oct. 30. Wawrzyniak posted a time of 16:34.8 for another school record and a personal best. Her finish helped the Golden Eagles place second overall out of 31 teams.
"Oliwia was incredibly strong for us during the weekend yet again, so it's great that the conference is honoring her again. She deserves it." According to head coach Nick Gibson, she is performing well in practice, and her hard work and dedication are seen in these races.
Wawrzyniak and the rest of the Golden Eagles XC group return to action on Oct. 14 as they take part in the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.; this will be the last race before the Sun Belt Championships.
