HATTIESBURG, Miss. --Â For the first time since 2016, the Southern Miss women's golf team will host a tournament at Hattiesburg Country Club as it prepares for The Judson this Monday and Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will send all nine golfers out for the first time this season.Â
Hattiesburg Country Club is set to play as a par-72, 6,136-yard track. The 11-team field includes Central Arkansas, Cincinnati, South Alabama, FAU, ULM, Belmont, Jacksonville State, UAB, Western Illinois and Tulane. The Golden Eagles' second group will play as a 'B' team for pairing purposes.Â
Momoka Ando leads the Southern Miss attack with a 72.58 stroke per round average through four events. The sophomore owns a second-place finish at the Hoover Classic, an event that the team won. The rest of the team lineup includes Friend Chompitakdacha, Elena Melich, Alma Betoret and Jacee Fields. Melich is coming off a top-10 finish at the Lady Red Wolves Classic earlier this month. The rest of the Golden Eagles participating in the event are Fernanda Gorostiage, Taylor Trible, Merche Corbacho and Icie Cockerham. Corbacho and Cockerham will be making their season debut.Â
Southern Miss won the Golden Eagle Jam in 2016 when they topped the nine-team field at Hattiesburg Country Club. Prior to that, Southern Miss hosted the Lady Eagle Invitational from 2011-15. The tournament marks the first Southern Miss has hosted under head coach Lucy Nunn Burke.Â
The field will tee off at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start on both days. Teams will play 36 holes on Monday and then finish with 18 holes on Tuesday. Admission to the event is free. Â
