The Southern Miss football team returns home for the first time in almost a month when they entertain Arkansas State, Saturday, for homecoming at The Rock.
Game time is set for 6 p.m., and can be streamed live via ESPN+, as well as be heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network from Learfield.
The game marks the first Sun Belt Conference tilt at The Rock as the Golden Eagles (2-3 overall, 0-1 Sun Belt) look to even their league record following a 27-10 league opener setback at Troy last weekend.
This weekend, the Golden Eagles celebrate their 85th homecoming affair, having posted a 61-23 record in those contests, including 15 wins over the last 20 editions.
The Southern Miss defense continues to excel, collecting two more turnovers last weekend at Troy and giving them now nine takeaways for the year. Four different players have two interceptions apiece - Malik Shorts, Jay Stanley, Eric Scott, Jr. and Camron Harrell.
Both of Scott's picks have been for touchdowns and the Golden Eagles have registered a total of three defensive scores this season to currently rank No. 2 in the country in that category. The defense also ranks No. 7 nationally in tackles for loss at 8.0 per game and No. 9 in sacks at 3.60 per contest.
Defensive lineman Jalen Williams leads the squad in tackles for loss with 5.5, while Dominic Quewon paces the Golden Eagles in sacks with five.
As for season tackle leaders, Shorts ranks first 42, followed by Santrell Latham with 35 and Williams at 26.
On offense, Jason Brownlee comes off one of his best games of his Golden Eagle career with a career-high 12 catches for 105 yards at Troy. It was Brownlee's seventh 100-yard receiving game of his career, which ties him for fourth-most ever by a Golden Eagle with DeAndre Brown.
Freshman quarterback Zach Wilcke will start for the fifth-straight time for the Golden Eagles as he has thrown for 660 yards on 61-of-105 throwing with five touchdowns and four interceptions and has at least one touchdown pass in all four previous starts.
Frank Gore, Jr., tops the team in rushing with 381 yards on the ground, averaging 4.9 yards per rush and 76.2 yards per game. Gore leads the squad in all-purpose yards as well with 419, as he gains 83.8 total yards a game.
The Red Wolves (2-4, 1-2) come to Hattiesburg having lost last week at home versus James Madison 42-20.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 2008 season in Jonesboro as the Golden Eagles captured a 27-24 decision in that contest. Southern Miss leads the series 9-2, which dates back to 1960 and have won the last six meetings.
One of those wins was a 31-19 decision in the 2005 New Orleans Bowl, which was played in Lafayette, La., due to Hurricane Katrina.
Following the Arkansas State game, the Golden Eagles return to the road when they face Texas State, next Saturday, Oct. 22. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
