HATTIESBURG – Southern Miss went through the fifth day of fall camp practice on Monday morning at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility.
Shortly before Southern Miss took the field at 9 a.m., Pro Football Network (PFN) tabbed four Golden Eagles as PFN Preseason All-Sun Belt. Luke Rogers and AJ Little were both named to the second team, while Broderick Roman and Kelby Hampton were selected to the third team. Little was selected as a punt returner.
Rogers and Roman combined for 25 games played last season for Southern Miss, with Roman starting all 13. Roman started the first 10 games at center before transitioning to right guard for the final three. Both helped the Golden Eagles to the league's best passing offense and the Sun Belt's fifth-best overall offense. Southern Miss also ranked as the fifth-best scoring offense in the league, and they helped improve the Golden Eagles' total offensive yardage average by over 120 yards per game compared to the previous season.
Little enters his first season as a wide receiver for the Golden Eagles after transferring from Chattanooga. As a redshirt sophomore, the Macon native caught 27 passes for 345 yards across 12 games. Little posted a 93-yard performance against Samford and caught at least one pass in each of the last 11 games of the season. In the punt return department, Little finished tied for second in the FCS with 123 punt return yards on nine attempts.
Hampton, a sophomore transfer from New Hampshire, had a breakout season as a freshman en route to playing nine games. He tallied 26 total tackles as a defensive back and added seven pass deflections. Hampton had two interceptions, including a 23-yard return against Albany. He posted a career-high six tackles in games against Villanova and Monmouth.
The Golden Eagles return to the practice fields Tuesday for practice six of fall camp, prior to its Sept. 5 season opener against Alcorn State. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
