HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's tennis team will head to Middle Tennessee on Monday afternoon to open the 2022 season and its Conference USA slate. The Golden Eagles and Blue Raiders will serve at 1 p.m. from the Adams Tennis Complex.
"I am very excited to get our season started after we ended on a high note in the fall," said head coach Zubin Engineer. "Olimjon [Nabiev] and Dhruv [Sunish] both qualified into the main draw at the ITA Regionals, so I am hoping they continue to play at a high level. We have a great core of returning players and a strong group of new guys that will be exciting to watch."
Monday's contest is the opener for both teams, while Southern Miss is coming off a 7-3 campaign last season. Engineer has finished with a winning record in each of the eight seasons he has been in charge of the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles head to Murfreesboro for the first time since falling 4-1 to the Blue Raiders on March 29, 2015, which was also the last time the two CUSA foes met.
Following Monday's contest, Southern Miss will return home to host Jacksonville State on Feb. 5.

"We played a lot of fall matches to get ready for the season and I know that every player played well. We practiced hard and came back after the holiday break still practicing hard. I'm ready to win the match."
Christopher Cahour
"We are looking forward to playing our first match of the season and I think we'll start fast. I feel that we are all ready to play and give 100 percent. It's going to be a tough first match against a very good team, but I know we can achieve good things together."

"It's my first season and I can't wait to represent the Golden Eagles on the court. My goal is to play my best tennis consistently and learn from each match I play."
