HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss (7-8, 1-2 SBC) closes its March conference slate on Sunday with a road match at Troy (14-4, 4-0 SBC). First serve is set for 10 a.m. in Troy, Ala.
The Golden Eagles head back into league play after spending the last two weekends on the road. Southern Miss opened its recent San Antonio trip with a 4-2 win over UIW before dropping matches to UTSA and Texas A&M Corpus Christi, then returned to Sun Belt action last Sunday in Mobile.
Sunday presents another strong conference test. Troy enters the match unbeaten in Sun Belt play and has won seven straight overall, putting the Trojans near the top of the league race as the calendar turns toward April.
For Southern Miss, the focus will be on getting back to the form it showed earlier this month. In the win over UIW, the Golden Eagles responded after dropping the doubles point and got singles victories from Saheb Sodhi, Eric Perkowski, Olle Noltorp and Jay Temming to secure the team result. That response remains one of the team's better road efforts of the spring and gives Southern Miss something to build on heading into another conference weekend away from Hattiesburg.
The Golden Eagles will travel Eric Perkowski, Saheb Sodhi, Olle Noltorp, Ritabrata Sarkar, Rasmus Becker, Jay Temming, Kale Mize, Jose Murariu, Matei Varbanciu and Julius Bult for the trip, with assistant coach Nicolas Simkin and head coach Zubin Engineer accompanying the team. Southern Miss' itinerary lists the Hampton Inn Troy as the team hotel.
After Sunday's match, Southern Miss continues its road stretch next weekend at North Alabama.
