Men’s Tennis Returns from Samford Invitational with 20 Wins

Birmingham, Ala. – The Southern Miss men's tennis squad opened its fall slate with a bang this past weekend at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. The Black and Gold exploded for 20 wins across singles and doubles play.
"I am very proud of how our guys came to play against a lot of quality opponents," said Southern Miss men's tennis head coach Zubin Engineer. "It was only the first weekend, but I think we have a bright outlook for the season, and we look forward to hosting the Southern Miss Fall Invitational this weekend."
Christopher Cahour, Dhruv Sunish and Olimjon Nabiev each went 3-0 in singles play while Cahour and Nabiev went the whole weekend without dropping a set. Antoine Audrain, Pawin Jirapoomdaje and Pasawee Reansuwong tacked on singles wins as Audrain and Jirapoomdaje had two each.
The Golden Eagles won all four doubles matches on Saturday before dropping three on Sunday. Gima/Audrain edged out a pesky Samford duo by a 7-5 score before Cahour/Sunish added another tally to the win column with a 6-4 win against Williams/Packard of Samford. Reansuwong/Jirapoomdaje added a win against Samford's other doubles pairing with a 7-5 decision. Gima/Audrain returned to the doubles court shortly after their first win to play Podzemny/Vasquez of UAB. The duo won their second match 6-3.
The Golden Eagles will host the Southern Miss Fall Invitational this weekend at the Southern Miss Tennis Complex. The two-day event will start on Sept. 25.
